The Etiquettes of walking to prayer Class 1
Is it allowed for someone who travelled to Saudi from the west, to shorten their prayer at home whilst also praying the full prayer behind the imam?
No, not if the person intends to stay beyond 4 days, then he must pray the full prayer.
Is it allowed for someone in Britain to pray at home because they cannot hear the athan?
No, unless the masjid is very far and it will cause a large difficulty to do so. What if someone lives next door to the masjid but the athan is not called for 1 day, can that person skip the salah in the masjid that day? No.
The criteria is about the masjid being far or close and not about whether the athan is called outloud or not.
The Etiquettes of walking to prayer Class 2
Does the individual go down on the hands first or the knees?
This is an issue with difference of opinion.
There is the hadith about not going down like the camel. Some scholars say the person should go down hands first, some say knees first.
The most correct position is going down on the knees first.
The intended meaning is to not go down on your face first.
If it is difficult to go down knees first, then it is permissible to go down on your hands first.
This is the opinion of ibn Qayyim.
Where do you put your hands after ruku in the salah?
They should put their hands back on their chest, right palm over their left hand.
This is the most correct position.
Is it a must that the women can see the men in the salah?
Whats important is that the women can follow the imam and not that they can see. So they need to be able to hear the imam moving from position to position.
Some of my family refuse to pray with me because my salah is long, what do you advise?
The prophet sallallahu alayhi wa salaam ordered us to be considerate of the people and to shorten the prayer when leading the people. There is also the warning to the companion Muadh radiallahu anhu about not being a person of fitna and elongating the salah.
